Project Description

The William N. Pennington Engineering Building project, built for the University of Nevada, Reno and the Nevada State Public Works Division, included the new construction of a four-story, 100,114-square-foot higher education facility on the university’s campus in Reno, NV. The project’s scope also included the demolition of existing buildings on the campus to allow for future expansion. The new facility houses 40 research laboratories, a 200-seat classroom, three instructional laboratories, 50 offices, 150 graduate student workstations, and a state-of-the-art computer laboratory.

With more than thirty-five percent of the building’s value in the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire systems, the proper coordination and scheduling of the overhead systems in the building was vital. The overhead systems are run by five rooftop air handlers, and are comprised of sixteen different water systems, four gas systems, an emergency radio system, multiple electrical and telecom systems, the fire protection system, and the entire building’s HVAC system.
